Happy to not so Happy

So last night we picked up my sister (Trish) and a friend (Cobi) at their hotel fully intending to go to a restaurant to have dinner and then we were going to drop them off at Rexall Place so they could watch 'So You Think You Can Dance'... best laid plans of mice and men...

Well we get to the hotel to pick them up and when they get down its obvious that they've already gotten into the hard stuff... Trish gets loud and funny and I'd never seen Cobi that tipsy... they told us that they had downed about 8 oz of red wine in less than 5 minutes just before coming down to the car. So we're driving off and we're trying to figure out where we want to have dinner... my sister is trying to describe some restaurants that we've been to before and I'm trying not to laugh to hard at her attempts to describe one of my favorite restaurants in Edmonton, (Pagolak)... Well long story short we find out that we won't be able to go because it will take too long to get there. Anyway I suggest that we head over to Japanese Village, since neither Trish or Cobi had been there and I love going anyplace where they make your food in front of you!! Well we're on our way to the restaurant, when my sister and Cobi start getting all excited about the sign for the Sherlock Holmes Pub... I ask if they would rather go there... with Pub in the name I should have known better since the answer was a definite YES!!!!

Well I've been to Sherlock Holmes pub before so I knew what to expect... but it was so funny seeing everything through two tipsy ladies eyes... They asked me to take a picture of them inside the London-style phone booth... it didn't have a phone in it so Cobi pretended with her hand... LOL!!

We get inside and its really crowded - something I wasn't expecting for a Monday night. We grab the only 'clean' table left, which just happened to be located under some stairs - my sister was like "this is like Harry Potter... we're under the stairs". We order some Vodka Slimes and a Pepsi for my hubby who was our DD... and then Cobi and Trish are trying to whisper to each other about some of the other patrons... except, they've forgotten HOW to whisper, so I can clearly hear EVERYTHING they say - which is funny!! Cobi starts saying that the room is spinning... guess she's a lightweight like me!! LOL. Finally our food arrives and Cobi and Trish start eating their Butter Chicken... it came with some sort of crispy rolled bread thing - Cobi kept calling it a Pompadom... And then Trish kept saying that the Pompadom was spicy and it was kicking her butt so she made me eat some of it and I told her that it wasn't spicy at all... But she continued to tell us all that it was kicking her butt... LOL I had the Haddock and Chips... UBER YUMMY!!! I love pub food... its so deliciously BAD for you!! LOL

We drove them to Rexall Place just in time for them to get to their seats!! Chris and I laughed all the way home...

And then we went inside and all of my happy left... I went to check on the puppy and he had my couch blanket on the floor and on top of it was the remains of my Eclipse book cover (the shiny paper one) ... I'm glad that I had the hardcover so he didn't chew it to bits... but he did destroy one of the corners... Normally I wouldn't get so upset about him finding paper to chew on - but I am a HUGE book lover and I like to keep my books in really REALLY good condition, so when I come home and find that my very bad puppy has chewed on one of my favorite books, I get not just a little mad.

I just don't understand him - he has a huge bin of toys, a tonne of rawhide's to chew, a lot of nyla-bones and I had even given him some denta-bones and a healthy edible bone that morning... Plus he gets to chase the kitties around all day, so why is he destroying MY stuff??? Whats worse is that that book had been in the same spot since Christmas and he didn't touch it until yesterday??? WHAT GIVES????

I'm back to thinking that maybe we don't spend enough time with him - but how can I spend more time with him when I work all week and then come home to do chores and cooking etc. My hubby suggested taking him to a puppy daycare, but we really can't afford to do that... I really wish it would warm up so he could have some more outside time - he does enjoy being outside... and I wish it wasn't so icy on the sidewalks so maybe we could go on long walks again... I'm just sick of coming home to find him destroying something else that I love... like my new dining chairs - which he has pretty much destroyed 2 of the 4...

I'm going to have to think long and hard about what to do about my bad bad puppy... So far my choices are to:
  1. kennel him during the day - which seems cruel to me since we're gone between 9.5-12 hours at a time
  2. put him in a puppy day-care - which we really can't afford right now
  3. do nothing until the weather gets better and then have him outside in a fenced in area with a doghouse and toys - which will only work during the day when its nice weather
  4. or... find him a new home... - which will break my heart, because even though I get mad when he wrecks stuff I still love him so very much.

I just need to figure out what is best for him... any thoughts?

Its Groundhog Day!!!!!

Its kinda lame but I LOVE this day of the year - I love the silly news reports on the groundhog seeing or not seeing his shadow and I always love watching the Bill Murray classic Groundhog Day!!

This year, I am hoping for an early winter - but as I live in Alberta Canada, that probably won't happen. You see, I am trying to plan for my veggie garden already and an early spring would help!! Especially since my husband promised that as soon as all of the snow has melted that he will help me build my garden bed boxes... 8ft long x 3 ft wide x 1 ft tall... I have enough wood for three of them and I bought an 8 ft long piece of lattice so I can grow some lovely peas!!

I'm planning on growing potatoes, carrots, peas, tomatoes, onions (both green and cooking ones), strawberries, cucumbers, squash, zucchini. I'm going to put in a small herb garden in some smaller planter boxes. I am also going to try to grow some pumpkins - not the huge ones you see at Halloween - the small ones you cook with. I might even try and plant a raspberry bush...

I think this year is going to be the year I get my act together and finally do all the things I want to do... OK, stop laughing!! I AM going to TRY... lol

Gingerbread houses

I bought a gingerbread house kit about a week before Christmas, and I totally intended to build it with Chris on Christmas Eve or Christmas day... well that didn't happen as planned... Chris and I got really busy (and lazy) and didn't get around to it... Until today!!

It was so neat - we bought some extra candies and some frosted mini wheats (for the roof). The kit came with some candies, but not nearly enough to satisfy my need to decorate and make it incredible to look at!

The house has a roof made of mini wheats - it really looks cool, like its really thatched straw with snow on top. The front yard has a fence made of goodies (they're candy coated black licorice bits) and a Pez brick walk to the front door which is made of mini licorice allsorts. The wreath I made from a gummi ring and some small red hard candies. We trimmed the roof eaves with small hard candies to make it look like Christmas lights. The yard is supposed to look like wood chips or shale, but since I used cocoa rice crispies, it sort of looks like dirt. I made a topiary bush out of some jube jubes and black licorice. There is also a whole bunch of little gumdrop bushes beside the front walk.

I made windows out of the pink layer of the allsorts and a long gummy piece and scattered some bushes along the sides of the house. I made a second and third fence with some gummies. We made a back door out of the brown and white layers of the allsorts and another walkway, this one was lined with skittles and paved with multi coloured nerds... We made a firepit out of some gummy rings that had been chopped into 4 pieces and added some black Goodie candies to look like charred pieces of wood and used the rest of the Pez candies to make a construction pile of bricks at the end of the back path. Chris commented that our house looked "classy in the front and redneck in the back... Kinda like a mullet..." LOL

I'll post pictures soon so you can see this awesomeness!! I need to recharge the batteries for my camera...

Next year I want to bake the gingerbread myself - I already have grand plans for a two story house with windows and a balcony...

I know, I know... pace myself... LOL

Goodbye Gram...

My Grandma died today... she'd been sick for quite awhile and we all knew it would happen, I guess I just hoped it wouldn't happen until after I had kids... I really wanted my future kids to know all of their wonderful great grandparents. But seeing it in black and white on my computerscreen, it looks so selfish.

I'm not too sad that she died, I know she's in heaven with Grandpa and that its better this way. She's not in pain anymore. But I am going to miss her so much!

I wish I could go to the funeral, but it's in Toronto and I can't afford the plane tickets...

I'll miss you Gram... give a hug to Grandpa for me. Rest in Peace

Happy New Year

I missed the countdown! Seriously!! Chris and I were watching some downloaded tv episodes on the 'fun machine' (I bought him a PS3) and we looked up at the clock and it was already an hour and a half into the new year! wow...

I seriously thought that we would have heard something happening in the neighbourhood... but nothing... we heard fireworks at 10:30 - I thought that was so lame!

Well Happy New Year to all and to all get to Bed it really REALLY late!! LOL
