Gingerbread houses

I bought a gingerbread house kit about a week before Christmas, and I totally intended to build it with Chris on Christmas Eve or Christmas day... well that didn't happen as planned... Chris and I got really busy (and lazy) and didn't get around to it... Until today!!

It was so neat - we bought some extra candies and some frosted mini wheats (for the roof). The kit came with some candies, but not nearly enough to satisfy my need to decorate and make it incredible to look at!

The house has a roof made of mini wheats - it really looks cool, like its really thatched straw with snow on top. The front yard has a fence made of goodies (they're candy coated black licorice bits) and a Pez brick walk to the front door which is made of mini licorice allsorts. The wreath I made from a gummi ring and some small red hard candies. We trimmed the roof eaves with small hard candies to make it look like Christmas lights. The yard is supposed to look like wood chips or shale, but since I used cocoa rice crispies, it sort of looks like dirt. I made a topiary bush out of some jube jubes and black licorice. There is also a whole bunch of little gumdrop bushes beside the front walk.

I made windows out of the pink layer of the allsorts and a long gummy piece and scattered some bushes along the sides of the house. I made a second and third fence with some gummies. We made a back door out of the brown and white layers of the allsorts and another walkway, this one was lined with skittles and paved with multi coloured nerds... We made a firepit out of some gummy rings that had been chopped into 4 pieces and added some black Goodie candies to look like charred pieces of wood and used the rest of the Pez candies to make a construction pile of bricks at the end of the back path. Chris commented that our house looked "classy in the front and redneck in the back... Kinda like a mullet..." LOL

I'll post pictures soon so you can see this awesomeness!! I need to recharge the batteries for my camera...

Next year I want to bake the gingerbread myself - I already have grand plans for a two story house with windows and a balcony...

I know, I know... pace myself... LOL

I even have a plan on how to make edible clear windows - using melted candy...
